This hood was knit using a brioche stitch, which creates a thick and squishy fabric. The yarn I used to knit this hood is one strand of a superwash merino held with one strand of silk mohair. The superwash merino gives the fabric most of its structure while the mohair gives the fabric a soft and airy halo.
I initially wanted a hood like this to wear with jackets that did not have a hood, however it also makes a great layering piece for jackets with a hood. Another reason that I love this hood is because even if I don’t want the hood up, I can wear it down and it acts as a cozy cowl. I prefer using this hood opposed to a hat because I am able to take it off indoors without having ‘hat hair’.
